The Youth FIRE Academy is an exciting program designed to introduce high school students to the world of first responders. Participants will gain hands-on experience and valuable skills while exploring potential career paths in fire rescue, emergency response, and public safety.

Through a combination of classroom learning, interactive training, and real-world experiences, students will:

  • Discover Career Opportunities – Learn about the vital roles of firefighters, paramedics, law enforcement, and other first responders, and how each plays a part in keeping our community safe.

  • Earn Recognized Certifications – Build a strong foundation for the future by completing certifications that are useful for both professional and personal growth:

    • Basic Life Support CPR/First Aid

    • Teen Mental Health CPR

    • Workplace Ethics

  • Learn from the Experts – Classes and training sessions are led by experienced first responders, including professionals from Tampa Fire and Rescue, Hillsborough County Fire and Rescue, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Department, and the Directions for Living Program Director.

  • Engage in Enrichment Activities – Students will participate in social and career enrichment field trips, giving them a behind-the-scenes look at first responder facilities, teamwork in action, and the real-life impact of public safety careers.

 

The Youth FIRE Academy is more than a learning experience—it’s a chance for young people to build confidence, gain essential life-saving skills, and explore meaningful career pathways while connecting with community heroes.
