Fifth Third Presents CDC of Tampa with $25,000 "Strengthening Our Communities" Award
1.31.2018 CDC of Tampa Board Chair Krys Patterson and President & CEO Ernest Coney, Jr. accept the "Strengthening Our Communities" grant award from Esther Marshall - Fifth Third Bank's Vice President for Community & Economic Development.
On January 31, 2018 representatives from CDC of Tampa's Board of Directors and leadership team joined Fifth Third Bank at a special event communicating their shared commitment to improving the lives and well-being of the local communities.
The "Strengthening Our Communities" event featured award presentations to four outstanding organizations chosen by Fifth Third from across its North Florida region. These commitments represent just a portion of the incredible $30 billion commitment to communities Fifth Third Foundation is making over the next five years.
As one of the four recipients, Corporation to Develop Communities of Tampa, Inc was recognized for its impressive record of creating sustainable homeowners through its Homeownership Center, as well as for its innovative approach to helping Hillsborough County residents move forward toward greater financial stability through its leadership of the Economic Prosperity Center collective impact collaborative.
The $25,000 award will be utilized by CDC of Tampa to integrate its Homeownership Center services within the broader umbrella of the Economic Prosperity Center model--ensuring that current and future clients have full access to:
+ Year-round free tax preparation services through CDC of Tampa’s VITA site;
+ Year-round financial education classes via CDC's Homeownership Center;
+ A Fifth Third-branded financial empowerment ‘toolkit;'
+ Referrals to other EPC partner agencies to assist clients overcome workforce barriers,
connect to income supports and build assets over time; as well as
+ A client support fund to help individuals reach their financial goals.
