Financial Literacy and Home Buyer EducationPrevent Foreclosure. The Financial Literacy and Home Buyer Education program assist all underserved populations, including those whose incomes reach below 80% of area median income. The ultimate goal is to educate and empower residents to expand then achieve their asset building goals, to include home ownership.

Fast Track Program  
Fast Track consists of an 8 hour training session for those homebuyers who are near ready to purchase a home.

Home Buyers Club 
The program consist of an 8 week Home Buyer Education training workshop (Realizing the American Dream – a NeighborWorks endorsed curriculum).

Prevent Foreclosure: Home Ownership Financial Literacy and Homebuyer Education

At a minimum, participants will learn methods to build financial assets to effectively break the cycle of poverty for their family. The ultimate goal is to educate and empower residents to expand then achieve their asset building goals, to include home ownership.

Classes Every Tuesday (6-7pm) Chloe Coney Center

Behind on your mortgage? Facing Foreclosure? CDC of Tampa can help. Don't Delay! Call Today! CDC of Tampa is a HUD approved non-profit housing counseling agency providing FREE services to help families avoid foreclosure. Classes offered every Tuesday. Financial Fitness involves some group classroom training and individualized counseling. It is designed to help participants identify and prepare strategies to overcome barriers to economic independence and financial stability. Topics include: Managing a Checkbook and Credit Cards; Budgeting and Saving; Goal Setting.

CDC of Tampa Home Ownership Financial Fitness involves some group classroom training and individualized counseling. It is designed to help participants identify and prepare strategies to overcome barriers to economic independence and financial stability. Topics include: Managing a Checkbook and Credit Cards; Budgeting and Saving; Goal Setting.

 

In addition, to traditional classroom teaching, the program includes innovative features such as individual financial counseling, role playing and coaching techniques to improve participants' financial knowledge, money management skills and self-confidence with money, specifically designed to foster life changes and overall community revitalization.

  • Overview of the homebuying process and what to expect
  • Understanding the advantages and disadvantages of owning a home
  • Steps to buying a home
  • Key members of the homebuying team
  • Mortgage payment and other costs of homeownership
  • How lenders determine creditworthiness and affordability
Homebuyer's Club

Home Buyers Club is for potential homeowners with obstacles to buying a home such as poor credit and high debt. The program consist of an 8 week Home Buyer Education training workshop (Realizing the American Dream – a NeighborWorks endorsed curriculum), to include basic financial literacy components coupled with specific training and information on the home buying process.

Topics include:

  • Home Maintenance/Repair
  • Foreclosure Prevention.
  • Qualifying for a Mortgage
  • Selecting a Home
  • The Mortgage Process
  • Home Appraisals/Inspections
  • Predatory Lending
  • Buying vs. Renting

Participants who complete the program are able to use the certificate/hours for local government sponsored down payment assistance programs and First Time Homebuyer programs offered by local lenders. CDC of Tampa is a recognized HUD counseling agency. CDC counselors are trained to use the national HOPE hotline for foreclosure mitigation services through its affiliation with Neighborworks America.
